Common questions

• Does Trace send my scan results anywhere?

  No. Bluetooth scanning and analysis happen entirely on your device. Tracker detections are not uploaded.

• Why does Trace need location permission?

  Both iOS and Android require location permission for any app that scans for Bluetooth devices - it's a platform rule, not a Trace requirement. Trace does not collect or transmit your location.

• The direction finder isn't pointing anywhere.

  Signal strength direction finding needs you to move. Walk slowly in one direction for several seconds and watch whether the signal strengthens or weakens. Concrete, metal and water all distort it.

• I found a tracker. What should I do?

  If you believe you are being followed, contact local law enforcement. Trace can tell you a device is present; it cannot tell you who owns it.
